Uber unveiled a new initiative during its Only on Uber 2025 conference, allowing drivers to earn money by completing AI-related tasks. The program, developed by Uber's AI Solutions Group, is currently being tested in India. Participants can contribute to AI training by capturing images or recording voice samples in various languages and accents.

The payment structure resembles freelance platforms like Amazon Mechanical Turk, with compensation based on task complexity and duration. Uber emphasized that these tasks are unrelated to its self-driving vehicle projects. The company has not disclosed client details or specific AI applications involved.

This initiative follows extensive driver feedback gathered through 60+ Crew meetings involving over 100 staff members. The program represents Uber's latest effort to diversify earnings opportunities for its workforce while contributing to AI development.
